Orange Creamsicle Brain-Fuel Smoothie

This simple Orange Creamsicle Brain-fuel Smoothie created by Mediterranean Diet RD, Brynn McDowell, (@the_domestic_dietitian) is blend'n'go goodness filled with memory and immune supporting ingredients.

And it tastes just like an orange creamsicle but without the excess added sugars or saturated fat.  Double win.

Frozen banana gives the smoothie a creamy texture and provides some carbohydrates for energy and brain fuel.   

And you probably know that orange is a great source of Vitamin C to help support your immune system - but Vitamin C may also protect against oxidative stress and inflammation, which can lead to better memory and motor development.  

Plus using actual orange segments instead of juice provides some fiber that will help with gut health and keep you full until your next meal.

Plus protein powder is an easy addition to get protein in a quick grab and go meal.  Some studies have show that as we age, adequate protein intake may be positively associated with memory function.

  • 1 orange, peeled and cut into quarters 
  • ½ frozen banana 
  • ½ cup milk 
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (can also use 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt instead) 
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

The super simple instructions: 

  1. Place all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth 
  2. Grab a glass, pour and enjoy!
